Jos 17

2: Manasses övriga barn fingo ock land, efter sina släkter: Abiesers barn, Heleks barn, Asriels barn, Sikems barn, Hefers barn, och Semidas barn. Dessa voro Manasses, Josefs sons, manliga avkomlingar, efter deras släkter.
3: Men Selofhad, son till Hefer, son till Gilead, son till Makir, son till Manasse, hade inga söner, utan allenast döttrar; och hans döttrar hette Mahela, Noa, Hogla, Milka och Tirsa.
4: Dessa trädde fram inför prästen Eleasar och Josua, Nuns son, och stamhövdingarna och sade: "HERREN bjöd Mose att giva oss en arvedel bland våra bröder." Då gav man dem, efter HERRENS befallning, en arvedel bland deras faders bröder.
5: Alltså blevo de lotter som tillföllo Manasse tio - förutom Gileads land och Basan på andra sidan Jordan -
6: eftersom Manasses döttrar fingo en arvedel bland hans söner. Men Gileads land hade Manasses övriga barn fått.
7: Och Manasse fick sin gräns bestämd sålunda: Den gick från Aser till Mikmetat, som ligger gent emot Sikem; därefter gick gränsen åt höger, till En-Tappuas inbyggare.
8: (Tappuas land tillföll nämligen Manasse, men själva Tappua, inemot Manasse gräns, tillföll Efraims barn.)
9: Och gränsen gick vidare ned till Kanabäcken, söder om bäcken; men städerna där tillföllo Efraim, fastän de lågo bland Manasse städer. Manasse gräns gick vidare norr om bäcken och gick sedan ut vid havet.
10: Det som låg söder om den tillföll Efraim, men det som låg norr om den tillföll Manasse, och deras gräns var havet; och i norr nådde de till Aser och i öster till Isaskar.
11: Och inom Isaskar och Aser fick Manasse Bet-Sean med underlydande orter, Jibleam med underlydande orter, invånarna i Dor och underlydande orter, invånarna i En-Dor och underlydande orter, invånarna i Taanak och underlydande orter, invånarna i Megiddo och underlydande orter, de tre höjdernas land.
12: Men Manasse barn kunde icke intaga dessa städer, utan kananéerna förmådde hålla sig kvar där i landet.
13: När sedan Israels barn blevo de starkare, gjorde de kananéerna arbetspliktiga under sig; de fördrevo dem icke heller då.
14: Och Josefs barn talade till Josua och sade: "Varför har du givit oss till arvedel allenast en lott och ett skifte, fastän vi äro ett talrikt folk, då ju HERREN hitintills har välsignat oss?"
15: Då svarade Josua dem: "Om du är ett för talrikt folk, så drag upp till skogsbygden och röj dig där mark i perisséernas och rafaéernas land, eftersom Efraims bergsbygd är dig för trång."
16: Men Josefs barn sade: "I bergsbygden finnes icke rum nog för oss; och de kananéer som bo i dalbygden hava allasammans stridsvagnar av järn, både de som bo i Bet-Sean och underlydande orter och de som bo i Jisreels dal."
17: Josua sade till Josefs hus, till Efraim och Manasse: "Du är ett talrikt folk och har stor kraft, därför skall du icke hava allenast en lott;
18: utan du skall få en bergsbygd, som ju ock är en skogsbygd, men som du skall röja upp, så att till och med utkanterna därav skola tillhöra dig. Ty du måste fördriva kananéerna, eftersom de hava stridsvagnar av järn och äro så starka."

 

2: There was also a lot for the rest of the children of Manasseh by their families; for the children of Abiezer, and for the children of Helek, and for the children of Asriel, and for the children of Shechem, and for the children of Hepher, and for the children of Shemida: these were the male children of Manasseh the son of Joseph by their families.
3: But Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, had no sons, but daughters: and these are the names of his daughters, Mahlah, and Noah, Hoglah, Milcah, and Tirzah.
4: And they came near before Eleazar the priest, and before Joshua the son of Nun, and before the princes, saying, The LORD commanded Moses to give us an inheritance among our brethren. Therefore according to the commandment of the LORD he gave them an inheritance among the brethren of their father.
5: And there fell ten portions to Manasseh, beside the land of Gilead and Bashan, which were on the other side Jordan;
6: Because the daughters of Manasseh had an inheritance among his sons: and the rest of Manasseh's sons had the land of Gilead.
7: And the coast of Manasseh was from Asher to Michmethah, that lieth before Shechem; and the border went along on the right hand unto the inhabitants of Entappuah.
8: Now Manasseh had the land of Tappuah: but Tappuah on the border of Manasseh belonged to the children of Ephraim;
9: And the coast descended unto the river Kanah, southward of the river: these cities of Ephraim are among the cities of Manasseh: the coast of Manasseh also was on the north side of the river, and the outgoings of it were at the sea:
10: Southward it was Ephraim's, and northward it was Manasseh's, and the sea is his border; and they met together in Asher on the north, and in Issachar on the east.
11: And Manasseh had in Issachar and in Asher Bethshean and her towns, and Ibleam and her towns, and the inhabitants of Dor and her towns, and the inhabitants of Endor and her towns, and the inhabitants of Taanach and her towns, and the inhabitants of Megiddo and her towns, even three countries.
12: Yet the children of Manasseh could not drive out the inhabitants of those cities; but the Canaanites would dwell in that land.
13: Yet it came to pass, when the children of Israel were waxen strong, that they put the Canaanites to tribute; but did not utterly drive them out.
14: And the children of Joseph spake unto Joshua, saying, Why hast thou given me but one lot and one portion to inherit, seeing I am a great people, forasmuch as the LORD hath blessed me hitherto?
15: And Joshua answered them, If thou be a great people, then get thee up to the wood country, and cut down for thyself there in the land of the Perizzites and of the giants, if mount Ephraim be too narrow for thee.
16: And the children of Joseph said, The hill is not enough for us: and all the Canaanites that dwell in the land of the valley have chariots of iron, both they who are of Bethshean and her towns, and they who are of the valley of Jezreel.
17: And Joshua spake unto the house of Joseph, even to Ephraim and to Manasseh, saying, Thou art a great people, and hast great power: thou shalt not have one lot only:
18: But the mountain shall be thine; for it is a wood, and thou shalt cut it down: and the outgoings of it shall be thine: for thou shalt drive out the Canaanites, though they have iron chariots, and though they be strong.

 

2: Muutkin manasselaiset saivat osuutensa, suvuittain: abieserilaiset, heelekiläiset, asrielilaiset, sekemiläiset, heeferiläiset ja semidalaiset. Nämä ovat Manassen, Joosefin pojan, miespuoliset jälkeläiset, suvuittain.
3: Mutta Selofhadilla, Heeferin pojalla, joka oli Gileadin poika, joka Maakirin poika, joka Manassen poika, ei ollut poikia, vaan ainoastaan tyttäriä; ja nämä olivat hänen tyttäriensä nimet: Mahla, Nooga, Hogla, Milka ja Tirsa.
4: Nämä astuivat pappi Eleasarin ja Joosuan, Nuunin pojan, ja päämiesten eteen ja sanoivat: "Herra käski Mooseksen antaa meille perintöosan veljiemme keskuudessa". Silloin Joosua antoi heille Herran käskyn mukaisesti perintöosan heidän isänsä veljien keskuudessa.
5: Niin tuli Manasselle, paitsi Gileadin maata ja Baasania tuolla puolella Jordanin, kymmenen osaa,
6: koska Manassen tyttäret saivat perintöosan hänen poikiensa keskuudessa; mutta Gileadin maa joutui Manassen muille jälkeläisille.
7: Manassen raja kulkee Asserista Mikmetatiin, joka on Sikemin itäpuolella; sitten raja menee oikealle Een-Tappuahin asukkaiden tienoille.
8: Tappuahin maa joutui Manasselle, mutta Tappuah, Manassen rajalla, efraimilaisille.
9: Sitten raja laskeutuu Kaana-puroon, puron eteläpuolelle; mutta siellä, Manassen kaupunkien keskellä, olevat kaupungit joutuivat Efraimille. Sitten Manassen raja kulkee puron pohjoispuolelle ja päättyy mereen.
10: Eteläpuolella oleva maa joutui Efraimille, mutta pohjoispuolella oleva maa joutui Manasselle, ja meri on sen rajana. Ja pohjoisessa sen raja koskettaa Asseria ja idässä Isaskaria.
11: Isaskarista ja Asserista joutui Manasselle Beet-Sean ja sen tytärkaupungit, Jibleam ja sen tytärkaupungit, Doorin asukkaat ja sen tytärkaupungit, Een-Doorin asukkaat ja sen tytärkaupungit, Taanakin asukkaat ja sen tytärkaupungit, Megiddon asukkaat ja sen tytärkaupungit, kolme kukkulaa.
12: Mutta manasselaiset eivät kyenneet ottamaan haltuunsa näitä kaupunkeja, vaan kanaanilaisten onnistui jäädä asumaan siihen maahan.
13: Kun israelilaiset sitten voimistuivat, saattoivat he kanaanilaiset työveron alaisiksi, mutta eivät karkoittaneet heitä.
14: Joosefilaiset puhuivat Joosualle sanoen: "Miksi sinä olet antanut minulle perintöosaksi vain yhden arvan ja yhden osan, vaikka minä olen lukuisa kansa, kun Herra aina tähän asti on minua siunannut?"
15: Silloin Joosua sanoi heille: "Jos sinä olet niin lukuisa kansa, niin mene metsäseutuun ja raivaa itsellesi maata sieltä, perissiläisten ja refalaisten maasta, kun kerran Efraimin vuoristo on sinulle liian ahdas".
16: Mutta joosefilaiset vastasivat: "Ei vuoristo riitä meille; ja kaikilla kanaanilaisilla, jotka asuvat tasangoilla, on raudoitettuja sotavaunuja, sekä niillä, jotka asuvat Beet-Seanissa ja sen tytärkaupungeissa, että niillä, jotka asuvat Jisreelin tasangolla".
17: Silloin Joosua sanoi Joosefin heimolle, Efraimille ja Manasselle, näin: "Sinä olet lukuisa kansa ja sinun voimasi on suuri; sinua ei ole jätettävä yhdelle ainoalle arpaosalle,
18: vaan vuoristo on tuleva sinun omaksesi. Koska se on metsäseutua, on sinun raivattava se, ja sen laitapuoletkin tulevat sinun omiksesi. Sillä sinun on karkoitettava kanaanilaiset, vaikka heillä on raudoitettuja sotavaunuja ja vaikka he ovat voimakkaat."
