- NASB - ... expanse in the midst of the waters, ... God made the expanse, and separated the waters which were below the expanse from the waters which were above the expanse; and it was so.

- waters... above the firmament - in a thinkable biblical cosmoloy it could exist big amounts of water at the outermost borders of space[1] (see the picture, and Ps 148:4 ("......waters that be above the heavens"). The water volumes located farthest out in space (~90% of all water) would give an outward-acting gravitational effect, as opposed to an "inward" effect, if most of the mass were located inside as presently assumed. The cosmological model proposed by Russel Humphrey[2] does not need any extra semi theories such as "dark matter" and "dark energy" like the Big Bang model does.
This new cosmological model by R. Humphrey would also explain the so called "distant starlight problem" (how could light possible have made it from so far distances to us, that is, more than 6000 light years, if the earth only have existed for 6 000 years).
The model assumes that the earth is about 6 000 years old, but with a different time measure in space during the stage when the time-space expanded rapidly on Day 4 when "the heavens were stretched out" Isaiah 40:22, and gravitational effects "outwards" (since this model has only approximately 1/8 of the universe's mass of water inside the "water shell").
- It is important to note that none knows exactly how the universe was created (in physical terms). Secular models creates more problems than they solve though, and only a few verses in the Bible suggests ideas about how God did it.
