Se även planetrörelser i vers 1 Mos 1:14.
In English
The first day, God creates the universe (matter, time and space) out of nothing. Light and the planet earth is created, entirely covered with (or consisting of) water (see also Skapelsedagarna).
- first day - the time unit for a (twenty four hour) regular day is determined by the rotation of the earth against a source of light.
A source of light existed (God had already commanded "let there be light") although the sun was created later. See also the movements of the planets in Genesis 1:14. The source text talks about regular twenty four hour days ('Strong's_3117').
- Light - not until the fourth day (verse 14) the sun and the planets are created. Here is not specified what kind the source of light has.
- evening - the period after the sunset in which a new jewish day started (Genesis 1:5; Mark 13:35). The ancient Hebrews observed two "evenings" each day, see Exodus 16:12, Exodus 30:8, Exodus 12:6; Lev 23:5 ("between the two evenings").
