Nimrudlinsen är en bit kvarts, 3000 år gammal, och uppgrävd i Assyrien av Austen Henry Layard. Vissa forskare är av åsikten att den användes som teleskop av de antika Assyrierna. Den anses att vara världens äldsta teleskop. Den har presenterats av professor Giovanni Pettinato som en möjlig förklaring till hur de antika assyrierna kunde ha vetat så mycket om astronomi.[1] Assyrierna betraktade planeten Saturnus som en gud omringad av en ring av ormar.[2] Det finns däremot en del forskare, som inte är övertygade, och hävdar att linsen hade varit föga till hjälp för se ut i rymden med.[1] Nimrudlinsen finns på British Museum.
