Från Rilpedia

The Pirates of Penzance, är en operakomedi i två akter med musik av Arthur Sullivan och libretto av W. S. Gilbert. Operan hade premiär på Fifth Avenue Theatre i New York på nyårsafton 1879. Den blev genast en stor succé hos både publik och kritiker.

Det är fortfarande ett populärt stycke att sätta upp och tillhör, tillsammans med The Mikado och H.M.S. Pinafore, de största framgångarna som parhästarna Gilbert och Sullivan haft.
